TRON THEATRE LABWEEK
oor lady, blessed be her hands
as project lead, director and writer.
i used this scheme to develop my play, Oor Lady, Blessed Be Her Hands. it is a dystopian play mostly in BSL.
i used this week to focus on two specific scenes, which is quite heavy in BSL jargon. we experimented with how to translate the language i use in this world into something that the audience will understand. i also explored how to make BSL understood by non-BSL users in a creative way. i have currently got funding to develop this further.
STUDIO SOMEWHERE RESIDENCE
beep beep m*therf*cker
as project lead, director, writer and performer.
i was the lead artist in take me somewhere’s studio somewhere residence. i used this time to develop an experimental piece of performance that started its life in the royal court’s plays from ur notes app writing scheme. traditional theatre felt like the wrong place for this piece, as the more i developed it the more abstract and experimental it became. this piece will focus on my experience at the hospital when i get my cochlear implant mapped and the medical ableism.

the royal court’s plays from ur notes app
insert witty title
as writer for a writing scheme.
we were to submit an piece of writing on the notes app. my humorous piece of writing centered around my monotonous visit to the hospital for a yearly check up of my hearing processor. it turned into a short play surrounding the themes of medical model of disability, how medical professionals treat deaf people, the erasure of sign language.
i presented and performed this at the royal court’s jerwood theatre upstairs.
